how I start a drawing

So, some times I put down the gesture, and sometimes I put down the redirected gesture (due to a form). This is sort of an artistic choice. The nice thing about it is that you can get nice big shapes right away.

  3. Btw I think I'm going to take either Kirk or Richard Morris (thanks to your links) next.

the hip ball, did you "throw in" in the body to see how it flows/relates with the overall shape? you're not necessarily placing it w an exact measurement (e.g. bottom of the hip equal to 4 heads)?

  4. I just eyeballed the hip placement. Whenever you slow down to think about stuff, like proportions, or shapes, it always stiffens up your drawing. The hope is that one day all this stuff becomes intuitive and you don't have to think anymore.
